Macau Day 1

The last day in Hong Kong, just before heading over to Macau, we headed to the famous temple – Wong Tai Shin. Many Hong Kong dramas, movies were shot here for it’s heritage and traditional looking architecture. It finely depicts ancient chinese culture and is also a popular place of worship.

After a brief visit we took the Turbo Jet ferry over to Macau, where we had taken the wrong path to our hotel, which took us up and down back alleys and slopes. We had a rest at our room and then started walking all over Macau, I find Macau to be a lot like Penang, the public transportation is not as well organized as Hong Kong and can be quite hard to get around if you are unfamiliar with the place, Portuguese road names definitely did not help in navigating the town.

Hong Kong Day 5

Day 5 brings us to the majestic sights of Ngong Ping, with the big Buddha as it’s main attraction it truly is a spiritual place of wonder. The cable car ride was a pretty long one, taking about 20 minutes from base to peak. There are several motors in between to keep the cables running over the huge distance, however we could see people hiking from the crystal cabin we were in. (I feel exhausted just by looking at them)

After our morning excursion at the spiritual land of the big buddha, we head on over to the land of fantasy – Disneyland. It truly is a world of wonder where fairy tale characters come to life. However, the rather humid weather and huge crowds made the visit quite hectic. We didn’t manage to go on any rides or get our photo taken with the characters, but we did enjoy the parade and the Lion King show. The fireworks display at the end of the day served as a fitting grand finale as we bid farewell to this fantasy land full of wonder.

Bottles

Liquor bottles or in fact any nice looking bottle set against a bright backlight makes a nice subject, as is the case with this line up of Bacardi bottles at the Hardrock Cafe Penang.

The Lion Dance

The lion dance is a significant symbol in Chinese culture and is a popular performance during festivities especially during the Chinese New Year Celebrations.

The acrobatic lions must ascend the stilts to reach the highest peak, it is believed that the lions bring prosperity and luck and wards of evil spirits.

Hong Kong Day 4

Ocean Park was next on our schedule, very colorful, very packed and not too cooling weather. We made it in time for the dolphin and seal show, we were ‘lucky’ to get the front row seat in front of the stage, but the sun was burning hot and we had to cover ourselves with an umbrella. The pyrotechnics show at the end of the day was spectacular, even though we didn’t have much time to go round the whole park, that last show was worth the visit.

Wawasan Open University Convocation

I had the pleasure of shooting for the 2nd Convocation of Wawasan Open University which was also the installation of the 2nd Chancellor after the late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu. Taking after him is Tun Dr Lim Keng Yeik.
