WOU Student Orientation Day
Yesterday was orientation day at Wawasan Open University, finally after several years of working life, I have the chance to further my studies again, however this time will be different, I won’t have the luxury of concentrating fully on studying, but rather I will need to study as I work. This will be a new challenge for me, hopefully Wawasan Open University will help me get through it.
The day started off with Penang Regional Office Director Mr. Mano giving a welcome speech and introduction to WOU and it’s systems, rules etc.
Following was a recorded speech by the Vice Chancellor himself as well as a welcome from Student Council President. Later which was the oath taking led by yours truly.
After the oath taking was a briefing by School of Foundation & Liberal Studies Dr. Mogana on the ODL system. This was later followed by a briefing by Mr. Mano on the university rules and regulations before the session stopped for tea.
A simple tea reception comprising curry puffs, fried bee hoon, kuih, coffee and of course TEA!!
Some students went to the library to chill out and surf the net waiting for the next session to commence.
The session was later broken up into two groups, udergraduate and postgraduate.
Prof. Madhulika led the briefing telling all CeMBA students about the course, marking and grading systems and what to expect out of an open distance MBA programme.
Farzanah from library then talked briefly on the available resources that students can access at WOU’s physical as well as e-Library. After which the session broke for lunch!! Damn hungry by now!
As the postgraduate session stretched over the specified time, the undergrads had already finished their lunch and most had returned to the lecture theatre or hung out at the library.
The food served wasn’t bad, but the fish was particularly awful with a very strong smell which rendered it virtually unedible.
After lunch there were more briefings which was more of a repeat of the earlier ones. Students were also given a hands-on session at the library to activate their accounts and get accustomed to the online learning system.
That concludes the orientation day, a beginning that will prove rather exciting, stressful and challenging for the next few years ahead for me.

Peace`

Hey Atif,
Well it’s only been my first semester, but so far it’s been good, the subjects I’m taking this semester are quite interesting except for one which I find a bit boring as I find it hard to relate to manufacturing line. Do you plan to take up the course as well?
Hello Serph!
Thank you for replying.
Actually I am enrolled in the program (CeMBA) in Allama Iqbal Open University [Islamabad, Pakistan].
I shall transfer credit hours to WOU in third semester thats why I asked for your comments.
Which courses you have taken.
Peace.
Hey Atif,
I see, I am currently taking Marketing Management, Operations Management, and Strategic Management.
Have you called up WOU so far? Mind my asking, are you Malaysian?
Hi Seraph!
Sure, I am from Pakistan (Muslim)
Ya, i mailed WOU and found that they have not started the program for International students (means transfer of credit hours).
Secondly, they said, i be needing work permit first to get the admission. For that I have to get a job…
So, first I be searching for job.
Takecare.
